Kayaking in Vail Valley

The River is Life

The sun is out, the snow is melting, and the water is rushing!! Here are the river activities you are not going to want to miss!!

River Activities in the Vail Valley

If you’re a fan of white water, Eagle River Valley is the place for you.  Home to Gore Creek, Eagle, Arkansas and Colorado Rivers, the Eagle Valley is a play boat’s paradise!  Most of the bodies of water in Eagle Valley offer everything from a chill float to class 5 tumbler.  Since all our water was recently snow, we would currently recommend you bring a dry suit.  The Bunkhouse has multiple launch points just minutes from its front door.  We’re so close you can almost feel the spray from the Bunkhouse deck…almost.  Our local recommendation for any of your kayaking gear needs is Alpine Quest Sports. They supply technical gear, apparel, and accessories for all your outdoor adventures.

Just in case you would rather watch the river action from the safety of a cozy riverbank, Vail Mountain will hold the Go-Pro Mountain Games the first weekend in June!  Come watch premier playboaters from around the world compete for the #1 spot in The Whitewater Rodeo.  You’ll catch unbelievable tricks and flips.  Not to be left out, amateurs (our local mountain beasts) will compete in multiple white water events including freestyle, and sprint races.  Most races will start at the Covered Bridge and end at the International Bridge in Vail, either of these locations will be perfect for a great view and photo opportunities.

If a casual river float is more your speed, call our friends at Turtle Tubing.  Specializing in mellow float trips on the Colorado River, they provide a perfect adventure for the old and young alike.  Take a leisurely two-hour float trip with friends and family and enjoy your life! 10/10 highly recommend if the goal of your Colorado trip is rest and relaxation.  Tell Shane we said Hello!!!

Last and definitely not least, you have got to try the amazing fishing opportunities here in our little Valley.   The Bunkhouse is just one block West of The Eagle River, home to the most beautiful rainbow and brown trout, and is productive year-round.  Nash, Ian, and Cornelious are our in-house experts, always in the water, and are more than happy to talk Fishing with you!  Come bunk with us and make your fly-fishing dreams come true!  If you are interested in a professionally guided trip you must see our friends just down the street at Minturn Anglers.  They offer wade, float, and horseback trips on some of the state’s most sought-after rivers.
